Beginning Spanish

Have you ever wanted to learn another language? Have you spoken Spanish in the past but have forgotten vocabulary and verb conjugations? It’s your lucky day! We will be learning Spanish from the ground up! For some it will be review, for some, something totally new! We will be using Amazon’s “Great Courses” videos which are taught by a Professor from Alabama University. We will stop during the 45 minute sessions and practice what is being taught that day. You are never too old to learn something new! Get your brain in motion and let’s learn a language! PLEASE make yourself a promise that you will come to every class so that you get the maximum experience. This is an ongoing class that we will continue, just like a college class, if you miss a class, there will be no one to catch you up. “Lost in Yonkers” at The Miner’s Alley Playhouse

“Lost in Yonkers” is a coming-of-age story set in Yonkers, New York. Neil Simon’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play centers around two brothers, Arty and Joey, who live with their grandmother and their mentally challenged Aunt Bella, while their father travels, desperately trying to scrape enough money together while working as a salesman to pay off his debts to a loan shark. Over the course of the play, the young boys learn lessons about love, responsibility and the importance of family that will carry them into adulthood. Miner’s Alley is located above the old Foss’ Drugstore in Golden. It is accessible by elevator and a very small, intimate venue. $31 will be charged for your ticket to this play. This class we will be making tie fleece blankets to donate to the Caring Hands Pregnancy Center where Cedar resident Pat Coy volunteers . You will be given two pieces of fleece and shown how to make these adorable tie blankets. We will donate them to the center for their kiddos. Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga is a 45 minute class that will leave you feeling stretched and rejuvenated. This class will include some meditation followed by a series of floor exercises (so bring a mat or large towel please), standing postures, balancing postures, and finish in Savasana (a yogic term for Relaxation). Gentle Yoga has been known to reduce swelling in joints, increase mobility, improve balance and stability, aid in digestion and better quality of sleep, among many more benefits that will allow you to be proactive with your health and wellness. Attention! We run a monthly bus to area banks for residents who do not have cars or who want a ride to their bank. Because of today’s computer usage…you can bank at any branch. You do not have to bank at the branch where you opened your account. Make plans to use our service to get to the bank! Active Minds presents “Tobacco”

The global tobacco market exceeds half a trillion dollars annually. If tobacco were a country, it would be roughly the 20th largest economy in the world. Join Active Minds as we tell the story of tobacco, from its roots to its leaves. We will cover the origins of tobacco, the role it has played in history as a plantation crop, and the rise and fall of tobacco in the U.S. As part of that, we’ll discuss how tobacco’s adverse health effects impacted society, consumption and created one of the largest legal settlements in history. What a great way to support local theatre! Our very own Foothills recreation district is presenting Neil Simon’s “Fools” at the Ridge Rec Center! For those of you who are Penpals, Grandma Jojo’s son is directing this play and says it is hilarious! Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He has landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives, he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon’s job is to break the curse. $12 will be charged for your ticket in the blackbox theatre. Art Class for All

Calling all want-to-be artists or already working artists!!! This class is for ANYONE who loves art and would be interested in creating a work of art in a 2 hour period right in your community! A trained art teacher will come to our Event Center with all supplies for each person to paint a picture. She will then walk us through the steps of creating the picture she has planned. Be sure not to miss CU’s spring opera! In 19th-century rural Russia, romance and tragedy unfold in the fates of two sisters. While Tatiana spends her time reading novels, Olga is courted by a neighbor who introduces a new visitor—Eugene Onegin—with whom Tatiana falls in love. What happens next reveals timeless themes of jealousy and heartbreak set to Tchaikovsky’s dramatic score. “Eugene Onegin” is presented by the Eklund Opera Program. CU College of Music faculty and students are joined by guest artists on stage, and members of the CU Symphony fill the pit orchestra. “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Magic Moments

This wonderful organization has been around for 36 years. It is a community theatre program that includes people with disabilities alongside able-bodied persons. This cast is over 100 from four years old to 80 years old! A new show is written every year and filled with songs we all know from pop, to old standards, to movie favorites, to musical pieces, etc… This years’ show is about wondering where “the dreamer” fits into the world and what his future holds. “The dreamer” has a mentor who shows her through a “dream life” and helps her realize how wonderful life is and how she can depend on friends and neighbors to get through! Songs from “The Greatest Showman”, FAME, 9 to 5, Roy Orbison’s “Only the Lonely, “Guitars and Cadillacs” and many more familiar songs fill this show! Like last year, Risa’s son Hayden is in this show along with a chorus debut of Risa’s husband Larry! Grief/Loss Support Group

Our first group meeting was successful and we are SO lucky to have a retired Psychiatric Nurse, Group grief support facilitator in our very own Pat Burgbacher at the helm. She brings decades of experience and practice to this group and will prove to be a wonderful asset as she helps us understand the grieving process and helps us explore different things each of us can do to help ourselves or others through this process. This is a peer support group, led by a wonderful neighbor who has some background and experience in this subject and we are friends getting together to listen, give a hug, suggest what might have helped them, etc… We will see where this goes…No need to sign up, just come and be a good listener and a warm shoulder.
