Hiking Group

We are situated in one of the most gorgeous places on earth right here in Littleton! Each week, we will explore a different part of the foothills and south metro area hiking on trails. Please wear good footwear, sunscreen, and hats and bring water bottles. There will be no time to stop and grab water. Please also plan your bathroom breaks accordingly. The hikes themselves will be about 1 ½ hours in total with transport time added in, so let’s plan 3 hours total. Hikes are contingent upon weather. Come get your dance on with Risa! This fun, energizing class will teach you line dance steps to a variety of music, including The Electric Slide, Boot Scoot and Boogie, Rockin’ Cha, Cupid Shuffle, just to name a few. You must have a Foothills Recreation District ID. If you don’t have one, bring your proof of physical address and identification and Risa will help you get your ID. Active Minds presents Railroads

This year marks the 150 year anniversary of the “Golden Spike” that completed the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad. Join Active Minds as we review the rich history of railroads in the United States. We will explore the role they played in building a young country as well as the industry titans that emerged to build and control them. We will bring the story all the way up to the present, discussing current freight and passenger train issues and opportunities.  All aboard!

Blood Pressure Clinic

Be sure not to miss Krista, CNA, who visits Concordia the first Thursday every month to keep an eye on your blood pressure. Golf at Foothills Executive 9 hole course

We will be playing the Executive 9 at Foothills Golf Course.  This is a very challenging, but doable course!  The longest hole is 350 yards from the white tees.  $14 is the greens fee and $8 for a cart will be charged to your account.  If you think you want to play, please sign up during sign ups so we have the correct number of tee times. Because this course is heavily-played, they are making a stipulation that whatever number we sign up for at the beginning of the month, we stick with so that they do not miss revenue from last-minute cancellations.  Therefore, when signing up for the month, please make sure that you are sure you will be golfing the days you sign up, because you will be charged for them.  If you cancel and we cannot find a replacement, you will be responsible for $14 plus $8 if you sign for a cart.  If you cancel within 24 hours of the event, you will also be responsible for a $5 cancellation fee; $10 if it is a 2 van event.  Please sign up in the Birch dining room to be a part of these events.

Attention! We run a monthly bus to area banks for residents who do not have cars or who want a ride to their bank. We go to Wells Fargo, US Bank (Southwest Plaza), Bank of the West (Southwest Plaza), First Bank, Chase (Coal Mine and Kipling) and Bellco Credit Union. Because of today’s computer usage…you can bank at any branch. You do not have to bank at the branch where you opened your account. Make plans to use our service to get to the bank! Beginning Spanish

Have you ever wanted to learn another language? Have you spoken Spanish in the past but have forgotten vocabulary and verb conjugations? It’s your lucky day! We will be learning Spanish from the ground up! For some it will be review, for some, something totally new! We will be using Amazon’s “Great Courses” videos which are taught by a Professor from Alabama University. We will stop during the 45 minute sessions and practice what is being taught that day. You are never too old to learn something new!  Get your brain in motion and let’s learn a language! PLEASE make yourself a promise that you will come to every class so that you get the maximum experience. This is an ongoing class that we will continue.  Just like a college class, if you miss a class, there will be no one to catch you up. Art Class for All

Calling all want-to-be artists or already working artists!!!  This class is for ANYONE who loves art and would be interested in creating a work of art in a 2 hour period right in your community! A trained art teacher will come to our Event Center with all supplies for each person to paint a picture. She will then walk us through the steps of creating the picture she has planned. What can you lose?  There can only be 15 people in the class, so be sure you sign up early to make sure you get on the list! First come, first served! Prevent the Event

We are taking the next step to healthy living. Concordia is pleased to announce our partnership with Bridges Community Home Care. This is our way of helping to keep our Concordia family safe in your homes. Every month each Concordia resident may participate in a FREE Wellness screening which will be performed by a trained Wellness Coordinator. This process only takes 10-15 minutes, but the benefits can last a lifetime. You will sign up for your screening and this will report any areas of health and wellness concern. AARP Smart DriverTek Class

Do you sometime wonder why your seatbelts suddenly tighten or why your car automatically slows down when you approach a car ahead of you? Are you curious about vehicle safety technology that can help keep you safer and driving on the road longer? This 90-minute workshop is an easy, interactive way to help people over 50 learn about the safety technology in their current or future car. During this session, you will learn about nine key safety features including smart headlights for safer night driving, blind-spot detection, forward-collision warning systems and more. Use your newfound knowledge and AARP’s resource material to explore the safety technology that may be present in your existing car or use it to help you ask the right questions when purchasing a new or used vehicle. Note: This course is distinct from AARP’s Smart Driver course in that it will not result in a discount on your auto insurance. Active Minds presents “Space Exploration”

Fifty years ago this July, the United States landed the first manned space mission on the moon. Join Active Minds as we reflect on President Kennedy’s challenge, the space race, the Apollo Mission, and the role NASA has played since the lunar landing. We will bring the topic up to date by discussing the current political context for NASA and the rise of private space companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, and others. Grief/Loss Support Group

We are SO lucky to have a retired Psychiatric Nurse, Group grief support facilitator in our very own Pat Burgbacher at the helm. She brings decades of experience and practice to this group and will prove to be a wonderful asset as she helps us understand the grieving process and helps us explore different things each of us can do to help ourselves or others through this process. This is a peer support group, led by a wonderful neighbor who has some background and experience in this subject and we are  friends getting together to listen, give a hug, suggest what might have helped them, etc …No need to sign up, just come and be a good listener and a warm shoulder.

OKTOBERFEST

It’s that time of year when we celebrate fall and everything good that comes with it! We invite you and your families to come and share an afternoon with friends and neighbors at a good, old-fashioned Oktoberfest meal! You will dine on brats, burgers, sauerkraut, potato salad and beer-of course! Bring your dancing shoes because the spectacular polka band, “The Austrian Connection”, will return for another rousing, great afternoon of song and dance!

  • You may invite up to 4 family members! Talk with your families early so that you can meet this deadline! Please impress upon your family the importance of getting back to you before the deadline so that you can sit with your building and not at the Late Sign-Up seating.
  • Deadline to sign up is Friday, September 13. You MUST sign up in YOUR building’s RSVP book to be a part of this event. Please mark 1 for yourself, then the number of guests you are bringing and put the total number attending in the last column.
  • Sign up on time…so that RISA CAN PURCHASE ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE. WHEN YOU SIGN UP LATE, YOU FORFEIT GETTING TO EAT W/YOUR GROUP OF FRIENDS DURING YOUR BUILDING’S SEATING TIME. LATE SEATING WILL BE AT 1:00pm, IF THERE IS FOOD LEFT OVER.
  • There will be no tickets. YOUR NAME AND NUMBER OF GUESTS WILL BE CHECKED OFF! IF YOU DON’T MEET THE SIGN-UP DEADLINE, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SIT AT YOUR BUILDING’S TIME AND WILL HAVE TO RETURN AT THE LATE SEATING TIME AT 1:00PM.   • Do NOT arrive more than 15 minutes early. TABLES WILL BE OCCUPIED AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SIT DOWN UNTIL 15 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR RESPECTIVE SEATING TIMES.
  • First seating will be at 11:30am for Birch/Cottages, second seating at 12:00pm for Cedar, and a 3rd seating at 12:30 for Aspen. (The order is done by the previous year’s schedule.) We are expecting 350 people at this event…please adhere to these separate seating times by building; separate seatings are so that we can accommodate the amount of people we are expecting in a timely manner! The band will play until 1:30pm.
  • When you arrive, go find a seat and relax. You will be called up by table by a staff member. Please do not enter the food line until you’ve been called.

Movie Out: “Downton Abbey”

Downton Abbey is an upcoming 2019 British historical period drama film, written by Julian Fellowes and directed by Michael Engler. It is a continuation of the television series of the same name, created by Fellowes, that ran on ITV from 2010 to 2015. The film is set in 1927–1929, and features a royal visit to Downton Abbey by King George V and Queen Mary. It is scheduled to open in theatres  September in the United States. What a great way to hear music you might never have heard before! This unique hybrid of cultures and styles was originally founded by Samir El Yesfi (TITO), born in Tetouan, Morocco. From the very first time he played the Arabic lute at the age of 16, he’s aspired to master the musical styles from Latin America that derive from Native American, Spanish, African, Islamic and Arabic cultures and hybridize them with traditional Moroccan folk music (G’nawa) that is often combined with tastes of the Andalusian region of Southern Spain. $19 will be charged for your ticket. School is back in session and we are going to celebrate our school days with a good, old fashioned sock hop! Tour the Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory and lunch at Dushanbe Tea House

This will be a fun way to get up to Boulder, hopefully see some pretty colors and enjoy some world-renown tea! We will take the 45 minute walking tour and sample some tea then head to Dushanbe Tea House for lunch in a one-of-a-kind restaurant. This building was brought over from Tajikstan and rebuilt piece by piece here in Boulder. It is a sight to behold! We will then take some time to stroll down Pearl Street mall and browse the shops.
